"Let me show you what you know" (Allyson Johns)

That should be the whispered mantra of all science educators, really...

In response:

What makes a great interactive exhibit? The person standing before it.
Without the being whose interest was sparked, an exhibit is just wires,
gauges, handles and Stuff. It may be well-planned, intricate,
brilliant,
beautiful and/or expensive, but if not touched, it is a pile of stuff.
So,
an interactive exhibit has to speak to your audience, has to draw them
in.
It has to whisper, "Look at me! Touch me. Reach out to me. Let me
show
you what you know."

ASTC-ers,

I'm working on a simple tutorial/exhibition in Second Life for non-
museum folks to give them some information about how museum exhibit
designers think about designing interactive experiences. For one
portion, I'm creating a "quote wall" with ideas from exhibit and
program designers all over the world, and I'd love your input.

So please, respond to this email with your answer to the question:

What makes a great interactive exhibit?

And if you want to be acknowledged by name, please include your name
and institution.

Thanks, and look forward to being famous in the metaverse!

Nina Simon
