Exhibiting Skills: Exhibition Development for Informal Educators



* A week-long workshop about developing exhibitions centered on living plants

* Active, small-group work and collaborative networking

* Free plus travel and lodging costs reimbursed



The workshop will be held at The Huntington Botanical Gardens in Southern California from February 6 through February 12, 2013.



Overview

Join the Huntington's award-winning exhibition team for the third of five intensive workshops on the fundamentals of developing botanical exhibits. Be one of ten participants from a broad range of experiences and backgrounds to spend a week learning and working in a team-oriented setting surrounded by 120 acres of gardens. From concept through evaluation, you will develop unfacilitated and interactive prototypes of living plant exhibits. This program is supported by a grant from IMLS.



You will gain:
* insight into the development of the award-winning exhibition Plants are up to Something in the Rose Hills Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science;
* knowledge about interpretive planning, the processes that shape living-plant exhibitions, and the motivations of museum visitors;
* skills in developing exhibit criteria and big ideas, writing labels for target audiences, creating prototypes, conducting formative evaluation, and designing for exhibit maintenance; and
* the abilities you need to lead your home institution toward improved practice and a critical approach to botanical interpretation.
