Colleagues -

The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, with support from the National Science Foundation, is pleased to invite informal learning institutions and organizations, as well as learning researchers, to submit applications to attend the 21st Century Learning in Natural History Settings Conference. The conference will be held in Washington, DC, February 12-15, 2012.

Applications can be downloaded from the conference website at http://informalscience.org/conference. Please note that the deadline for applications to be received is 11:59 PM on November 18, 2011.

The purpose of the conference is to develop, initiate, and disseminate a collaborative and sustained learning research agenda to inform how natural history museums can best use their resources to support our audiences in the 21st Century. Before, during, and after the conference, participants will 1) synthesize diverse perspectives on the best opportunities for natural history museums to understand their publics and collaborate to serve their needs in new ways, and 2) identify a set of high priority learning research questions to drive the innovation of new opportunities for STEM learning associated with natural history settings.

Lodging, breakfast and lunch daily, and one dinner in Washington, DC, will be covered for all participants from the United States. Participants will be responsible for their own travel costs. A limited number of additional subsidies are available to help offset the costs of transportation to the conference for some US attendees who would be unable to attend the conference without it. Although we are not able to support the costs of participation for non-US attendees, we welcome applications from institutions and organizations that represent an international perspective.

If you have questions or would like to be added to an email distribution for information about the conference and the project, please email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Thank you,
