Bishop Museum is exploring partnering with Family Programs Hawaii to host and develop educational and family programming focusing on foster children and their families.



 Some current ideas are:



-   Providing onsite Museum Family Days for Project Visitation. This program is a volunteer program where individuals provide support reuniting siblings in separate foster care homes on a regular basis for family outings and to give relief to their foster families. We would like to host Museum family days for this which could possibly also include weekend sleepover programs.



-   Providing outreach programs to a receiving homes for children and neighbor island foster children throughout Hawaii.



-  Providing a structured career ladder or work experience program for high school seniors in foster care. Ho'ololi Mua No Ke Ola Senior Program guides high school seniors in foster care to successfully prepare for and enter postsecondary education or vocational training.



It would be wonderful to hear from other Science Centers and Museums working with foster children. In particular with regard to programs, experiences and any advice that can be shared. In addition, any feedback on how programs were evaluated and associated research would be greatly appreciated.
