Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

There is a small, but active subset of schools in the US that have
technology curricula that use rapid prototyping equipment.  You can find
some examples in Ties Magazine: http://www.tiesmagazine.org/ an
excellent resource on design and technology projects.

Technocité at La Villette in Paris was an incredible version of just
this concept. They took it out some years ago but it was inspirational,
if expensive. 

School groups designed a puzzle which was then CNC'ed. They also
designed the packaging, a business model, marketing materials etc. all
in one afternoon.

Very ambitious stuff,
