Subject: Public Archaeology Weekend

Come spend a weekend at the San Diego Presidio excavation! For only a small
contribution you can participate in the excavation of a historic site!

The Presidio of San Diego is considered to be the birthplace of European
California. Founded in 1769 and abandoned in 1834, it contains the first
location of the Mission of San Diego, the commander's house, the house of the
governor, and the presidio chapel. The current excavation involves the North
Wing. Over 14 rooms have been uncovered. Among the artifacts found are
ceramics from China, Mexico, and England; pieces of military hardware; animal
bones; plainware; and beads.

The Center for Spanish Colonial Archaeology invites you to participate. To
make a reservation for a weekend, we ask that you call at least one week
ahead. If you need a place to stay, let us know and we can send you a list of
available motels close to the dig.

You can leave a message at our lab in San Diego, (619) 524-0577, for Dr. Jack
S. Williams (or an email message for [log in to unmask]), or contact Anita
Cohen-Williams at (602) 965-4579 ([log in to unmask]). The Center is a
non-profit 501(c)(3) research organization and your contribution is
tax-deductible.
