I am Anne Garland, a doctoral candidate at the University of Hawaii, writing the
last chapters of my dissertation from Smithfield, Virginia, where I reside. I
have a masters degree from William and Mary in historical archaeology and my
dissertation is on several post contact sites in Honolulu. I utilize documentary
