Brooklyn College Summer Archaeological Field School
Hendrick I. Lott House Project.

In conjunction with the Hendrick I. Lott House Preservation Association and
the
New York City Parks Department, this summer the Brooklyn College Summer
Archaeological Field School will explore the history and archaeology of the
Hendrick I. Lott House, located in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn, New
York. The Lott House is one of the last remaining pre-Revolutionary Dutch
farmhouses in New York City. The original portion of the house was
constructed
circa 1720, with additions at the beginning of the 19th century.

The archaeological field school is scheduled for 2 three-week sessions,
June 8th
- 26th 1998 and July 6th - 24th 1998. The field school will meet Monday
through
Friday from 9am to 5pm. You may register for Anthropology 70.1
(undergraduate), a 3 week course available for 6 credits or you have the
option
of signing up for 6 weeks at 9 credits. Graduate students may register for
Anthropology 601X; which also offers 6 credits. This may appeal to grade and
high school teachers. Volunteers are also welcome to participate.

The archaeological project is under the direction of H. Arthur Bankoff
(Chairman of the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at Brooklyn
College, CUNY). Professor Bankoff has conducted historical archaeological
research within New York City since the mid 1970s. This field program will
provide instruction in archaeological field methods and theory as well as
laboratory experience.

No housing is available for this project. The site is accessible by public
transportation.

We hope to see you this summer.

If you would like further information please contact Professor H. Arthur
