Just an aside a small gold coin struck in Mexico City from about 1680 or so
was found in the excavations of the "175 Water Street Site" in New York
City, which also had the refuse filled ca 1730 "Ronson Ship" hulk next to
the South Street Seaport Historic District (once to be the site of the
"World Trade Center" according to "Divided We Stand" a book about the
history of its development). The "Ronson Ship" was "double planked" with tar
and horsehair. Over two hundred coins were recovered, some counterfeits.
They were appropriately stored at Drew University, Madison, NJ until more
recently brought back to the South Street Seaport Museum after suitable
storage was found for them.
