I was not going to participate in this discourse, since I did not see the point of arguing this matter any further, but I will throw in my two cents.   

First, I seriously have to agree with Bob Schuyler. 
 Second, we must differentiate what is it that we are studying, I am a historical archaeologist, that wants to get at past human behavior, not history.  I utilized material culture and historical records in order to get a better understanding of this behavior.  Therefore, I do not see how historical archaeology would belong in the History department.  Is the core of  history to study human behavior?...  I would say no.  Thus, we must look at first what is it that we are trying to get at (i.e human behavior, or historical facts), and decide what method to use.

I might be wrong but that's my opinion
