J. C. "Pinky" Harrington--one of the founders of historical archaeology in
North America--died today, 19 April 1998, at age 97. Harrington spent his
life-long career in archaeology with the U.S. National Park Service. The
Society for Historical Archaeology recognized his pioneering work in 1982
by establishing the J. C. Harrington Medal that honors individuals for
lifetime scholarly achievements and outstanding contributions to the field.
