Dear list members,
During interior renovation of an 1827-28 officer's quarters at the
former Augusta Arsenal (now Augusta State Univesity's campus) here in
Georgia, contractor's workers discovered a pair of women's slipper type
shoes behind plaster lathes in the north wall. My understanding is that
shoes in walls may be related to builder's notions of keeping evil
influences away from the building.

I'm sure that I've seen information on similar phenomena on the list
during the past few years, but need now to look more closely at it, two
questions. Can anyone give me the directions to search the HISTARCH
archives (have tried various commands to <[log in to unmask]>, but
nothing so far has worked).

Also, since this message will go out to the general readership, is
there anyone who can suggest some sources on the topic "concealment
shoes".
