Subject: Wine Bottles and Barrels

Mike Nassaney suggests that wine consumption is higher on military
sites than civilian sites as a longstanding historical generalization.
Certainly this is an empirical question with implications that could
be tested on trapper through recreational hunter sites, early and
recent mining camps, early and contemporary sheep camps and what is
left of cattle line camps and ranch headquarters and transportation
sites (friegting, overland stage, railroad, highway road houses, and
even modern air terminal) civilian sites. My impression is wine (and
other alcoholic beverage) consumption will not necessarily be found to
be greater in military than "civilian" contexts.
