Will Reed is our Regional Archaeologist for Region 4 (Utah, Nevada,
southern 2/3 of Idaho, small chunks of western Wyoming).  He used to be the
Forest Archaeologist for the Boise National Forest.  I am sending this to
him also.  He is very knowledgable and his employment by the feds has not
forced him into any 12 step programs that I know of.

We have a Forest Service Historian, Gerald W. Williams, who operates out of
the Portland office the last I recall b ut may have been moved in the
Washington DC office.   He may be able to tell you who the other six agency
historians are.

Hi Smoke --

Who is, and how do I contact, Will Reed?

I'd like to know who the Magnificent Seven in the FS are! The same
question about what constitutes an 'archaeologist' is applicable to what
makes being a 'historian.'

Will Reed just did a query yesterday and the USDA Forest Service Heritage
program employs

333 professional archeologists (193 series) and
47 archeological technicians (102 series).
7 Historians (170 series)
7 Social Science Student/Trainees (199 series) and
2 "general Anthropologists" (190 series)
