Another thing to keep in mind is that sherds do not necessarily indicate
the number of flowerpots, even if reconstructed. Beecher and Stowe advise
the use of broken flowerpots for drainage in the bottom of flowerpots and
Ward cases used as little greenhouses. I'm sure this was common practice.
