It's now older than most students and a bit dated, but the 60-minute "Other
People's Garbage" (1980) from the old PBS documentary series Odyssey  is
still a pretty decent introduction to historical archaeology and can be
used to illustrate development of the field. Features Deetz, Fairbanks, and
others in three segments reporting on diverse projects (mining community,
slave quarters, and urban archaeology). It was well received when first
made available on VHS (reviewed by Robert Paynter in American
Anthropologist, New Series, Vol. 85, No. 3 (Sep., 1983), pp. 753-755.

Dear List Members,

I'm trying to track down a copy of the PBS presentation "Slavery's Buried
Past" for a summer session
class.  Can anyone suggest where I might be able to obtain one?  PBS
doesn't seem to sell copies, and
our university library does not have it.

Alternately, suggestions of good historical archaeology related videos that
you've used successfully
in teaching are very welcome.
