A better connection might be an association with  "spring cleaning".  I
don't know what they do in Australia but many US households used to move
all the furniture, clean the house in total, etc.   This started in my home
(New York) about the 1st of May and was complete by Memorial Day, which is
when the garden was planted.

There is probably a fair chance. Unfortunatly my excavations didn't locate
the privies and I am not aware of the moving day phenomena in Pt Adelaide
(South Australia) so it isn't anything I can test...
