Unlike nails, there is considerable international collector interest in
buttons, so there is so much literature on the subject one would be tempted
to say it's countless. To recommend a few books that would cover the entire
range of variety would be almost impossible, since much of the literature
is focused on particular time periods, styles, materials, etc. Just try a
search on "button collecting" and you'll see the problem. There is a fairly
good list of general and specialized books, however, on a page of the China
Calico Button website (click REFERENCES):

I was very impressed by the response to the question
asking about reference books for nails. Since everyone
seemed to be so interested in the nail discussion, is
there any interest in reference books for buttons?
