Information received a few minutes ago on [log in to unmask] (Utah
Historic Preservation list):
WASHINGTON DC, May 11, 2000
Preservation Action and the National Conference of State Historic =
Preservation Officers are happy to announce that just after 4 pm today
the U.S. House of Representatives voted 315 to 102 to pass the
Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 2000.
For over a year, the Promise Kept: Campaign for Historic Preservation
has diligently worked to ensure, first and foremost, that the Historic
Preservation Fund was part of the House Resource Committee-approved CARA
and secondly that CARA was brought to the House floor for a vote.
Thousands of advocates nationwide wrote, called and visited their
Representatives, letting them know that a vote for CARA was a vote for
historic preservation. This vote represents a landmark shift it funding
priorities at the federal level and secures a steady predictable stream
of revenue to state based preservation initiatives.
LOBBYING WORKS --- ON TO THE SENATE!!!!
