> The Department of Anthropology at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track position in sociocultural anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2012. We seek applicants who conduct ethnographic research on natural disasters or anthropogenic hazards, but others researching related subjects that bridge or extend existing departmental or college level strengths are also encouraged to apply. Particular topics of interest include how the intersection of state, humanitarian, community, and commercial interests affects disaster preparedness, relief and recovery; how discourses of risk and security and programs and technologies of disaster preparedness are taken up by vulnerable populations and how these in turn impact the ways in which communities react differently to both perceived and real threats; and how environmental racism influences hazard identification and response strategies. Although geographic area is open, candidates working at multiple and transnational scales are encouraged to apply. Methodological approach is also open, and applicants with training and competence in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods will receive equal consideration. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology by July 31, 2012 and provide evidence of an active, interdisciplinary research program that will result in publications, external funding, and the potential for involving graduate and undergraduate students in their research. Responsibilities of the position include research, graduate and undergraduate student teaching and advising, as well as departmental, college, and university service. Review of applications, which should include a cover letter and CV, will begin November 1, 2011 and will continue until the position is filled; applications will not be accepted after December 31, 2011. The University of Cincinnati is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women, people of color, people with disability and veterans are encouraged to apply. We anticipate selecting and notifying a short-list of candidates by mid to late December at which time 3 letters of recommendation will be requested. Interested candidates can complete an online application at www.jobsatuc.com and reference the job posting number 211UC1697.
