I just posted my study of the Dry Docks of the Erie Canal on my web page.
It was some time ago that I did the research at the New York State Museum,
Archives, Library, etc. under the direction of Craig Williams in the Office
of History Survey, and many people have been after me for my findings.
While my study is far from satisfactorily complete I do present a summary
of dry docks that will be of use to many who are researching the Erie Canal
and which lists in great detail the sources that I examined for each dock,
whether the information was positive or negative. I do not have individual
histories of each dry dock, but from my posting future researchers can get
a good start.

The primary page is found at:
"http://www.erols.com/weiskotten/drydocks.html". I have secondary pages
that give statistics (location, references, proprietors, etc.) at:
"http://www.erols.com/weiskotten/drydockstats.html", and a history of the
Chittenango Landing Dry Dock (now museum) at:
"http://www.erols.com/weiskotten/clcbm.html". Also check out my own web
page at: "http://www.erols.com/weiskotten/weiskotten.html" where other
central New York history can be found.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated (especially
archaeological references, a few of which I already know)

I haven't got any maps yet, but am hoping that fellow listers will be able
to tell me about something already posted that I can use as a handy
reference. Although there are dozens of dry docks on lateral canals I did
not look at them and thus have no data for the Champlain, Oswego, Black
River, Chenango, Genesee Valley, etc..

I also have recently posted an introduction to my Cazenovia, Fenner, and
Nelson (Madison Co., NY) Cemetery Project at:
"http://www.erols.com/weiskotten/CFNcemeteries.html" where I cite several
reasons for checking older works and doing things for yourself!
