SONOMA STATE UNIVERSITY
is Seeking:

Archaeological Assistant 
(Laboratory Assistant II)
6 month temporary position

This is a pool position.  Review of applications will be continuous for the
life of the pool.  
The pool expires on October 31, 2000.  Both full and part-time (50% or
more) positions available

Monthly salary range: $1,955 to $2,538.
Anticipated full time monthly salary expected to be $2,232 or $2,454
depending on experience.

The Position:  The Archaeological Assistant participates in field work
and/or lab analyses, and writes portions of technical reports. Under
general supervision, the Assistant may conduct pre-field or post-field
research; act as a team member on an archaeological survey, excavation,
and/or laboratory team; coordinate the work of others in collecting and
analyzing archaeological data; write portions of technical reports; prepare
graphics, and format final documents. 

This is a temporary position scheduled to start June 1, 2000 and run
through December 31, 2000.
Depending on department needs, the position may be extended.  Benefits
include health, dental and vision care. 

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability
to schedule and prioritize work and will be skilled in standard methods and
procedures associated with archaeological survey and excavation. In
addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to collect
archaeological data, recognize archaeological sites in the field, complete
excavation record forms to the appropriate standard, and conduct guided
independent research.  Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies may
be required. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and the ability to prepare
reports or sections of technical reports in MS Word and Excel are required.
B.A.in Archaeology/Anthropology, or a related field preferred, and two to
three years of relevant experience.  Substantial revelevant experience may
be substituted for the B.A.

Anticipated full time monthly salary expected to be $2,677 or $2,946
depending on experience.

context of cultural resources management. In addition, the successful
candidate will have the ability to coordinate archaeological data

independent research. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies may
be required.  Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and the ability to prepare
reports or sections of technical reports in MS Word and Excel are required.
 An M.A. in Archaeology/ Anthropology or CRM,  or a related field is
preferred, and two to three years of relevant experience.  Substantial
relevant experience may be substituted for the M.A. 

Preferred consideration will be given to current SSU employees who are in
CSEA bargaining units.
