  I don't know if it has been mentioned, but there is a book by Jay D.
Edwards and Tom Wells called "Historic Louisiana Nails:  Aids to the Dating
of Old Buildings" which we've found useful.  1993 publication of Geoscience
Publications, Dept. of Geography and Anthropology at Louisiana State
University.
