New research grants in Marine and Maritime Archaeology

In its first year of operation, the Honor Frost Foundation is seeking
to make awards not exceeding in total £100,000 for marine and
maritime archaeology in the Eastern Mediterranean with an emphasis on
Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus.

Qualifications - Grants are available to independent scholars,
affiliated scholars and institutions, and are intended to support or
facilitate research projects covering any period or aspect of
maritime archaeology related to the above areas. In the present round
it is likely that individual grants will not normally exceed
£10,000, which could be the total cost of a piece of work, a
contribution to work already in progress, or the cost of a pilot
study that might in due course lead to a major research project.
Grants are open to all scholars or institutions with preference to
those working in the above named areas. Applications from scholars
based in the Eastern Mediterranean will be particularly welcome.

Timeline - Applications should be submitted by 15 October 2012 using
the Grant Applications Form on the HFF website
(www.honorfrostfoundation.org -
http://cts.vresp.com/c/?BritishInstituteatAn/b8e8dc3b61/4e87155f2c/3dc0b905f7
) . The outcome of the awards will be advised in December 2012 by
email. Decisions on grant awards are final and no feedback will be
given on any applications.

Requirements - Grantees will be required to provide a written report
of their work and provide an accounting of expenses. All or part of
grantees' reports may be published on the HFF website and possibly in
future HFF newsletters.

Future Grants - It is expected there will be another round of
applications for grants to be awarded in the financial year 2012-13.
It is intended that there will be a regular operating cycle of grants
awarded by the Foundation.
From time to time the HFF will consider urgent out of cycle
applications on an exceptional basis.

Contact - Please contact the HFF Executive Director at
