One brand new site to see is the Campo de Cahuenga, just across the street
from the more popular Universal City Studio attraction, on Lankershim Blvd. in
North Hollywood. This is the adobe where the Articles of Capitulation were
signed in 1847, ending hostilities of the Mexican American War in California.
After excavation, the foundations and tile floors were preserved in situ, and
recreated on the surface for all to see. The site is on the NRHP, has
interpretive signage, and displays in the commemorative building on the property.
It's a rare example of archaeology, leading to preservation plus public
interpretation.
