Glenn (and any others interested in touring),

Diane has laid out a pretty good tour for you. I would add a few
suggestions. In Phoenix, go to the AAA office and buy the Indian Country
map. It has a lot of the out-of-the way sites on it and is very detailed
on the regional geography. Also in Phoenix you can visit Pueblo Grande
museum, which documents the Hohokam site that once covered most of the
metro Phoenix area.

You should go to Navajo National Monument, which has the two best
preserved cliff dwellings in the SW, Keet Seel and Betatakin. Betatkin is
visible from the visitor's center as is a short hike away. Keet Seel is 8
miles down the canyon, but definitely worth the hike. You do need to make
a reservation if you want to hike, they only let in 20 people a day, but
once you are there you get a personalized tour of the ruin. Most people
then spend the night in the canyon and then hike out the next morning.

Chaco Canyon is a "honeypot", but really is a must-see, considering that
for several hundred years it served as the ideological center place of
pre-Puebloan culture. If you are interested in Fremont Culture, the
museum I think Diane was referring to is located near Richfield, Utah (on
I-70). Other good museums include Edge of Cedars, outside of Blanding,
Utah, and the Anasazi Heritage Center, in Dolores, Colorado.

Oh, Navajo Ntl Monument is in NE Arizona near Kayenta. The number of the
visitor's center is (602) 672-2366. A book about Keet Seel was just
published. You could look it over to see if you are interested.

Have a great time!
