For what it's worth (from a novice historic archy)...I think FSM did a
grand job of getting the info Out there....but it IS the task of more
knowledgeable historic specialists to send them corrections...so the info
is correct.
Not everyone has all the necessary references to know the latest findings,
etc....and many (at least some) of the reference books we use to ID items
have WRONG info in them...like the well-used Toulouse's book on bottle
makers marks. Sure, he wasn't a historic archy person...but his data have
been used by many (most?) for yrs...without much questioning. So this is
an example of how mistakes get Out there...and perpetuated in reports and
on websites. There are date range errors in the well-used Godden and
Kovel's ceramic marks books also. Yet do the historic archaeological
community SHARE with each other when they find this out...and learn what
the Correct date(s) is??
That is OUR responsibility (if I may include myself in this
'group')....rather than working in isolation...or keeping secrets. JMO
