'Recently got my hands on an nla copy of Landowski's impressive
Messe de L'Aurore (Pierre Cao et l'Orchestre et Choeur Colonne; Erato
2292-45528-2), after twigging to three of his symphonies on Erato (245
018-2; Orch Nat'l de France under Pretre). These took a while to get
under my skin, but they've been very much there since.

Neither as wild as Jolivet nor as elegant as Frank Martin's music often
is, his somehow suggests the music of both; maybe Honegger's too. Lacking
in glitter or sexy sparkle, his music has a rather dark sound that's
very much his own, always following what strikes me as a very compelling
logic of subtly impressive shapes.

I gather that there are several operas; he's also set texts to music,
including something by Rabindranath Tagore. EMI has a VC in the books,
but it's now nla. My special orders expert says it's bound to be
repackaged, provided I can wait. (Must I?) Websites report concertos
for ondes Martenot, trumpet, flute, bassoon and piano, but there's little
else on disc.

Anyone able to add to the above? ...hopefully reporting (re-)release
dates of a few recordings?
