After shameful decades without regular radio broadcasts of the SF Opera,
and seven years after a single broadcast of "Rusalka," the Opera will make
the current, outstanding production of "Butterfly" available on KALW, 91.7
FM, at 2 p.m., June 23.

The good news: this is the production conducted by Donald Runnicles and
featuring Miriam Gauci, Zheng Cao, Zoran Todorovich and David Okerlund in
a superb performance.

The bad news: the venerable KALW, the oldest US public radio station, has
a broadcast range roughly within the city limits of tiny San Francisco.
Still, it's a heck of a lot better than what was available until now.
