I'm not going to comment on why classical music is unpopular, per se.
However, a relevant fact may be that it doesn't lend itself to 22 minutes
of advertising an hour, or whatever the ridiculous total is on most
commercial stations.  Talk and pop have easy breaks every three minutes
or so.

Just a thought.
