In recent months, my wife has grumbled some about our not attending
a sufficient number of live shows. So last Saturday I took her to a
production of "Mame" at the University of New Mexico. I wasn't concerned
about the quality of this musical play; I already knew the story was poor
and the music even worse. My concern was sitting still for over an hour
in crowded sitting arrangements with no decent stimulation coming from the
stage. I did manage to handle it, but I often felt like leaving the hall.
I haven't been to a concert for a long time.

A much better time is in store for me late this Spring. Angela Hewitt
will be giving a concert in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Since she is a Bach
specialist, I'm hoping that most if not all of her concert will be Bach.
My daughter bought two tickets as a present for me during the holidays. My
wife and I will make a night of it and stay at a hotel since the concert's
at 8 PM and Los Alamos is quite a distance from Albuquerque. I've heard
a reliable rumor that the 50th person to show up for the concert gets a
handsome chunk of plutonium courtesy of the labs at Los Alamos. What
more could a concert-goer ask for?
