A correspondant of mine has recently been redoing his own restoration
of the Beethoven 5th conducted by Nikisch.  (see below)

   I had not listened to it in many years. As one who generally
   appreciates older recordings, and the use of rubato taken by
   earlier generations, I found myself feeling a bit lost at times
   in the interpretation. I found the sound quality vastly improved
   and somehow I found myself listening more intently, less like
   it was an artifact,  than I had in the past. Placing the work
   in a different sonic context, seemed to affect my perception of
   the interpretation.

In short, I thought some of you might be interested in listening, and I
wonder what your thoughts might be about the sound and the interpretation.
