Although I don't consider Gardiner "special" in the Missa Solemnis, his
Mass in C is superb.  The Missa Solemnis is a very heavy work compared
to the Mass.  I generally find that Gardiner and "heavy", although a good
mix, do not represent his best performances.  For the Missa Solemnis, I
favor Klemperer on EMI.  I am looking forward to getting the Herreweghe
recording, although I haven't seen myself doing anything about it.  Some
selections always seem to be on the "back burner".

Status Report on "Positive" Posting

In response to my posting about how I intended to stop bashing classical
music composers and artists, Bob Draper indicated that he frowned on list
members only writing in a positive fashion, and that he thought it best to
have a "balanced" message board.

I agree with Bob, and I don't think that my revised mode of operation has
dulled my "critical" edge.  I think I've been appropriately critical when
warranted, and I definitely have been highly critical of various comments
made by other list members.  And I've been able to do this without any
composer/artist bashing.

My main reason for this post is just to share with you how easy it has
been for me to stop the "bashing", and that I feel significantly better
concerning my participation on the list.  It's been a "win" situation for
me, and I hope others feel the same.  My wife would be proud of me, except
she really has no idea what transpires on the list.  Whenever I do mention
various aspects to her, I can tell that her mind is wandering to other
avenues.  That's similar to what my mind is doing when she talks to me
about family counseling.
