Laurence, the movie is NOT about the historical Mozart. So it is no
wonder that the man in Hutchins' book is not Amadeus. Shaffer's Mozart is
a fantasy character, invented to serve as an example. Or should we begin
to fight with Puccini because his Scarpia is not the real Scarpia, to fight
with Strauss because his Salome is not the Bible-Salome, to fight with
Wagner because his Parsifal is not the original Parzival, with John Adams
because his Klinghoffer is not the historical Klinghoffer? What a strange
concept of art would this be?
