The Scala Ring is available in a wide veriety of recordings - some
with atrocious sound; some with fairly good sound. The Gebhart transfer,
which is the best I've heard on CD, is available for less than $50 from
Berkshire. But then yesterday I was listening to the Krauss Ring on
Archipel (ARPCD 0250-13) which I also got for about the same price.
The singers are magnificent but the orchestral sound is a bit congested.
Has anyone heard the "newer" Archipel transfer? Is it significantly
better?

John
