Another one I recall involved a waiter in a restaurant in the 19th century
becoming confused with his orders.  He had an order for wine, but was that
for Herr Schumann? Or table four? Or was Schumann sitting at table 4?

His long-suffering manager gently replied, in his accented English:

   Two, er, is Schumann; to four give de wein.

(One of them BTW was also responsible for the semi-legendary "you can't
have your kayak and heat it too")
