Yesterday's mail brought a sampler disc of the New York Philharmonic's
ten CD set of "An American Celebration."
I hope to do a complete review once the entire set arrives, but if this
sampler is any indication, the transfers are wonderful.
Some of the highlights on the set include Hanson conducting his Second
Symphony in 1946; Stokowski conducting the Herrmann Devil and Daniel
Webster Suite, Creston Symphony No.2 with Monteux, Bernstein conducting
the Schuman 6th, Copland Orchestral Variations and Carter's Concerto for
Orchestra conducted by Boulez.
