In response to James Arts' announcement of Mr. Small's performance of
the Goldberg Variations next week in New York, I will offer my simple
recommendation that Mr Small's rendition of the Goldberg Variations is
excellent. I heard him perform the GV last year and when I came home I
played Murray Perahia's rendition of the same. I could not say that one
was truly better than the other, although there were some differences.
FWIW (for what it's worth) I prefer both of them to the first Gould
recording.
