Music of The Americas Presents Musicians Accord Walt Whitman Concert
Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 PM

The Americas Society Music of the Americas concert series is pleased to
present a concert by the renowned Musicians Accord of music inspired by the
great American poet Walt Whitman on Thursday, June 13, 2002, 7:30 PM at the
Americas Society, 680 Park Avenue, corner of Park Avenue and 68th St.  in
Manhattan.  This concert was rescheduled from its original date of May 7.

Baritone Keith Spencer and pianist Christine Diwyk of Musicians Accord
will present a recital focusing on the influence of Walt Whitman on Latin
America, highlighting parallels and contrasts of poem settings between U.S.
composers and Latin American composers.

The program will include All the way through evening by Chris De Blasio;
Four Walt Whitman Songs by Kurt Weill; Whitman Songs by Laura Kaminsky;
Canciones a lo Ausente by Alba Potes; and the New York Premiere of Sentido
de su Ausencia by Claudio Alsuyet.

This recital is part of Cosmic Connections:  Whitman and Latin American
Writing, a series of events taking place this Spring exploring Walt
Whitman's influence on Latin America.  This has been organized in
conjunction with the Americas Society Literature Department.
