I remember of a performance back in the 50's when Bruno Walter conducted
the NY Philharmonic.In the final whoops by the horns, Walter slowed the
tempo so that with those remarkable acoustics of Carnegie Hall, they
re-verbed around the hall and as each one made "the round" it was time for
the next one.  Needless to say this was not the only memorable moment of
that concert.  To have been able to hear Walter conduct Mahler is one of
most cherished memories.
