Sam Kemp:

>However, to do this I need a D number and / or whether the piece is from
>the beginning, middle or end of the composer's\ life (i.e. volume I, II,
>or III). Can anyone help? The piece is entitled "Wanderers Song at Night"
>("Wanderers Nachtlied").

There appear to be two settings:

Wandrers Nachtlied I, D224 (1815)
Wandrers Nachtlied II, D768 (1822)

I also have Wandrers Sturmlied for chorus and orchestra by Richard
Strauss, which is a setting of Goethe and thus possibly related.
