Andrys wrote concerning pianist-conductor Jeffrey Kahane:

>Thanks for writing about this jewel in our midst. Fabulous musician.

When I read about Kahane, it immediately takes me back to his Nonesuch
recording of Bach's 3-Part Inventions and the Partita, BWV 828. He
performs the Inventions very well, but the highlight is the best BWV 828
I've ever heard on record - great sound, and a reading that brings out all
the drama and excitement of the piece.

Some of you might be wondering what in the world I'm doing back on the
list when I signed off three days ago. Well, last Saturday night I was
listening to Goodman's RCA set of Schumann's symphonies. It sounded
fantastic. I wanted to relate this to someone, anyone. Sunday morning, I
thought for sure that if I played the 2nd movement of Schumann's Rhenish
Symphony that my wife would recognize the theme used in the Western movie
"The Big Country" with Gregory Peck and Burl Ives. But, she didn't
recognize the theme nor did she remember the movie. Moving on, I e-mailed
my brother who is a classical music fan. He responded quickly with,
"What's happened to that box of cd's you promised to send me? I'm still
waiting". That's when it hit me that I was back to the time over two years
ago when I kept all music matters to myself. It felt fine then, but not
now. I do feel a new-found affinity for that old Bobby Vinton song refrain
from the late 1950's - Like a rubber ball, I keep bouncing back to you.
My wife does remember that music.
