I sympathise with both parts of that, and from time to time make a modest
attempt to redress the balance. I don't report on every performance I go
to, only when there's something I think will be of general interest to the
list audience, or sometimes if writing about some music I've heard helps me
to get more out of the performance. Of course I understand that not all
of us are able to get to live performances on a remotely regular basis, and
that some of us choose not to go to live music in favour of staying at home
with a pile of CDs, or for various reasons may have no choice in the
matter.

I don't complain about this list's "obsession" with recordings (which does
seem to me to be more marked than it was a couple of years ago) - if that's
what people want to talk about, that's fine by me. But when I download a
batch of mail from MCML and several other musical lists, live performance
reports are one of the things I look for first when I scan through the
posts. I should be only too happy to see more of them.
