It might be worth noting that the name John de Lancie is known in another
field - the oboist is survived by a son, John, a popular character actor
probably best known for playing the role of Q (an annoyingly omnipotent -
or perhaps omnipotently annoying - immortal) in various Star Trek
franchises.  In checking the bios of father & son, it seems that they may
have collaborated more than once on the concert stage - apart from a busy
film & TV career, the younger JdL seems to have carved himself a little
niche doing orchestral narrations....
