Deryk Barker hoped that an ARG reviewers would "know better" when he
panned the sound of a Naxos Schnabel Beethoven CD and wondered if compared
the sound with other transfers of the same performance?

Mr. Mulbury did not compare the sound with other transfers of these
performances. But he was not enthralled with either Schnabel's playing
or HMV's engineering. He thought, "Several other distinguished pianists
were playing and recording Beethoven's sonatas at the time with much
more polished and exciting results - Solomon, Gieseking and Backhaus
come to mind..." Yet he concludes by recomending one buy this CD if
you have not yet become acquainted with Schnabel's Beethoven.
