Give it a chance; it just might grow on you. IMO, the Schuman Violin
Concerto is the best American work in the genre. And Quint and Serebrier
do it just about as well as Paul Zukofsky and Tilson Thomas did it with
the BSO, back when that was the recorded premeire of the "final" version
of the concerto.

That Zukofsky/Tilson Thomas LP had Ruggles's "Sun Treader" as its discmate.
Unfortunately, while "Sun Treader" has made it to CD (in a different
coupling), the Schuman hasn't.

There's yet a third recording of the Schuman V.C., with Robert McDuffie
and Leonard Slatkin (St. Louis S.O., on RCA). This one's quite a dud,
again IMO. It just doesn't catch fire like Zukofsky and Quint do.
