Last night the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra (an amateur orchestra in
Sydney) gave a concert which included the first two movements of Piano
Concerto No. 2 by Australian composer Miriam Hyde.

This concerto was written in 1934-35 while Miriam Hyde was on scholarship
at the Royal Academy of Music in London and was presented by the London
Symphony Orchestra under Constant Lambert with the composer as soloist
in 1935.

Last night's soloist was........Miriam Hyde.

She celebrated her 88th birthday back on January 15.

Perhaps our listers can identify other instances of a composer
performing one of their concerti 66 years after its premiere. The most
obvious composer that would spring to mind is Saint-Saens. His First Piano
Concerto was premiered in 1865 and he died in 1921 - only 56 years later.
Perhaps there are others in this stratosphere.
