Alkan created a solo piano transcription of the 1st movement of Beethovan's
3rd piano concerto. For the cadenza, Alkan created a monster that builds
and builds until it breaks into the theme of the last movement of the
5th symphony. It's really quite interesting because Alkan makes the
case that the 1st movement theme of the 3rd piano concerto is very very
similar to the last movement of the 5th. It's recorded on the CD by
Hamelin "live at Wigmore Hall"
