I just took delivery of the 4-CD from "Erich Wolfgang Korngold, The Piano
Music," played by Martin Jones (Nimbus NI 5705/8)

The set contains:

Sonata No. 1 in D minor (1908/09)
Don Quixote (Six character pieces after Cervantes) (1909)
Der Schneemann (The Snowman) - Pantomime in 2 scenes (1909)

Sonata No. 2, Op. 2 (1910)
Marchenbilder Op. 3 (Seven fairy tale pictures) (1910)
Vier kleine frohliche Waltzer (Four Waltzes) (1911)
Vier kleine Karikaturen fur Kinder Op. 19 (Four little caricatures
for children) (1926)
Was der Wald erzahlt (What the woods tell me) (1909)

Zwischenspiel Intermezzo (Akt III) aud der Oper "Das Wunder der Heliane" (1927)
Piano Trio in D major Op. 1 (Piano Four Hands) (1910)
Potpourri aus der Oper "Der Ring des Polykrates" (arr. Ruffin) (1913)
Aus der Musik zu "Viel Larmen un Nichts" Op. 11 (Much Ado About Nothing) (1918)
"Schach Brugge!" Burleske Nachtszene am Minnewasser aus der Oper "Die Tote
Stadt" Op. 12 (1920)
Geschichten von Strauss Op. 21 (1927)

Sonata No. 3 in C major Op. 25 (1931)
Der Schneemann (The Snowman) - Four Easy Pieces
Schauspiel - Overture Op. 4 (arr. F. Rebay) (Piano Four Hands) (1911)
Grosse Fantaisie aud der Oper "Die Tote Stadt" Op. 12 (arr. F. Rebay) (1920)

Five hours of wonderful music, beautifully played. For those unfamiliar
with Korngold, his dates are 1897-1957, which means, incredible as it
sounds, some of these pieces were written when he eleven years old.
Brendan Carroll's statement in the accompanying booklet "(He) was one
of the greatest composing child prodigies in history," seems almost an
understatement. Equally amazing, the only piano lessons he ever had
were a few from a needy relative when he was five years old. Amazing!!!!
