The American Festival of Microtonal Music Presents Joshua Pierce in
Concert on March 25 at New York's Church of St. Luke in the Fields

The American Festival of Microtonal Music, under the direction of Johnny
Reinhard, will present internationally renowned pianist Joshua Pierce
in concert on March 25th - 8 PM at the Church of St. Luke in the Fields,
487 Hudson St. at Grove St. in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.

This concert will feature AFMM pianist Joshua Pierce performing Ludwig
van Beethoven's Sonata quasi una Fantasia (Moonlight) No. 2 in C# minor
tuned in Kirnberger III (practical just intonation).  Similarly tuned
will be Mr. Pierce's performances of Johannes Brahms' Sonata No. 1 in
F minor for Clarinet and Piano, joined by clarinetist Gilad Harel, and
Johann Philipp Kirnberger's Sonata No. 3 in G minor for piano solo.

AFMM Director Johnny Reinhard will pay tribute to the late Tui St.
George Tucker with a performance of her quartertonal Second Sonata -
'The Hypertonic' for alto recorder.  Harpsichordist Rebecca Pechefsky
will join Mr. Reinhard, now as bassoonist, for Georg Philipp Telemann's
Sonata in F minor in 1/6th comma meantone.  Joshua Pierce will also join
Ms. Pechefsky for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's double-harpsichord Sonata
in F major.

General admission for the March 25 concert is $15, $10 for seniors and

Grammy nominated pianist Joshua Pierce has performed in prestigious music
centers throughout the world as a soloist and with an extraordinary array
of orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia,
Symphony Orchestra of Russia, Moscow State Philharmonic, Berlin Radio
Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra.  He has
recorded nearly 200 works including numerous world premieres as a soloist
and with orchestra for EMI Classics, Carlton Classics, Helicon, Koch
International Classics, MMC, Phoenix, Pro Arts, Sony Classics, Vox and
other labels.  His landmark series of recordings of John Cage's music
on the Wergo label has earned him tremendous acclaim worldwide.  His
25-year collaboration with the pianist Dorothy Jonas, as part of the
two-piano team, Pierce & Jonas, has resulted in numerous acclaimed
recordings and performances, including a command performance with the

The American Festival of Microtonal Music has been presenting concerts
using all tuning systems since 1981.  In 1996, Festival Director Johnny
Reinhard brought his realization of Charles Ives' Universe Symphony to
Alice Tully Hall with Joshua Pierce as pianist.  They have performed
together throughout Russia, Europe and the United States since 1983,
presenting a wide variety of composers including many important works
by John Cage, Harry Partch, Phillip Corner, Charles Ives and Ivan
